Manager, Bob Pooler with 2011 Calendar

A TALENTED cartoonist from Hampton has hand-drawn a dozen humorous sketches for a Vale charity’s 2011 calendar, which is being given as a thank you gift to volunteers and support agencies. Gillian Anderton has also created a funny Christmas card for Blackminster Business Park based charity Roundabout, which collects and redistributes furniture and household goods to people in need. The 66-year-old artist started cartooning as a hobby some years go and her designs have become ever more popular, leading Roundabout’s manager Bob Pooler to hear about her unusual skill. “I loved doing the cartoons for Bob at Roundabout and he has already asked me to start thinking about new cartoons for his 2012 calendar,” Gillian said. “I was always top at art and bottom at maths at school and art has always been a passion of mine so it was a pleasure to do this for Roundabout.” Bob Pooler said he was thrilled with the personalised calendars, which will be given to his hard-working volunteers as well as people at the support agencies who refer local families in need of help, such as the John Martin Charity, Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire Council. “We are very grateful to Gillian, the cartoons are excellent. I hope everyone enjoys her sketches as much as we have,” Bob added. Gillian, who also paints portraits, is a volunteer at the Red Cross Centre in Briar Close where she runs an art class for people who are partially sighted.
